How good is the new Pages update with the Pencil?

Anyone try the new Pages update on an iPad Pro with the Pencil? How well does it work as a notetaking app compared to apps like Notability for note taking, drawing, adding photos, etc.

I have had a quick look and I don't think it is as good as GoodNotes which I currently use.

You can annotate typed i text and write notes on it but don't seem to be able to just start writing complete text with the pencil and have it OCR etc.
