I have the 1st gen touch. The wifi is not that great. I kept getting disconnected from a hotspot about 35 feet away. I tested the wifi range of the touch 3g. I walked about a half a block away and was still connected to network. Has anyone tested the range of the touch 4g?

its alot further than my iPhone 3GS. Almost everytime I have them side by side, the iPod Touch 4G will find atleast 2 more routers that just won't appear for the 3GS.

The 4G is not as good as the 2G, although it could be a one-off. I've compared with a friends and I always pick up more signals than he does.

Considering that the iPod Touch 4G now supports N-Wireless as well, I find that it is a lot better than the previous generations.

It can also depend on the signal strength of the router. I use a wireless G router and it has a range of roughly 50ft with the iPod touch, although gets very slow then, it is also quick at finding hotspots.

Are you sure about that? 4G model uses wireless N which should be superior to 802.11b of the 2G model...right? I plan to make a wireless range comparison test of 1G vs 3G model of touch.

So I finally had a chance to perform the same test with my 1st gen touch. The wifi signal died when I walked out the front door (thick wooden door closed) vs being connected about a half a block away with the 3rd gen touch. Pretty crappy wifi on the 1st gen. I imagine the 4th gen is the same as 3rd gen, if not better, esp when using wireless N router.

I found the wifi range to be a little better and much faster

I have 4g and its awesome.. connectivity is great with Wi-Fi... it still remain connected crossing 3 walls...

I borrowed a 2g/3g and it picked up more WiFi routers. The 4g has pretty sensitive WiFi, compared to the antenna spot on 2g and 3g. If I move just a little bit (just my arms) some WiFi spots will drop out.
