I have a Poco X3 NFC. At first, I thought the heft (215g) and thickness (9.4mm) were okay, but now, I am growing to dislike it, especially compared to my S21 that only weighs 169g. It just becomes uncomfortable in my hand. My iPhone 7+ is 188g, and I thought that was quite heavy, but of course the Poco took that cake.

The heft of the Poco does have a reason, which is 5100mAh battery. But how heavy that becomes too heavy for you guys? I have a feeling the ceiling for me is probably around 200g, with ~170g seems to be the sweet spot (eg the S21). Or is thickness/width being the more important factor? Eg. a denser device (heavy but smaller footprint) might be better? Good question probably for 13 Pro Max users as it is heavier (240g) but thinner (7.7mm).

So I have an 11 Pro Max, that weighs in at 226g, and I find it good, feels nice and solid in hand, very well balanced, IMO, in my hand, the rounded corners make it easier to handle to.

For me it’s more about weight distribution, you can have a lighter phone but if the weight is too much on one end of the phone then it becomes uncomfortable to use, for me the 11PM is nicely balanced so I can deal with its weight.

Also the build of the phone in terms of how smooth the edges are play a big part to, if the edges are too sharp or the case I have on has edges that are too sharp that can also make things worse as you struggle to get it to sit nice and well gripped over a longer period.

I think for me if the phone tips over 260g it may be a little too much if it’s not well balanced and has super sharp edges. If it hits 300g then I think that would be way too much even if it’s well built.

I don’t believe I have a “To Heavy” weight. I currently have the 12PM and have no issue with the weight. I have to admit though at times I say to myself this is a heavy phone.

This!

I feel the 13 Pro Max more comfortable than the 13 Pro because of the better weight distribution.

Probably 400 grams and more ?

I can use 13 Pro max with case and magsafe charger on it and weights 326g a it is still ok.

I’m honestly not bothered about the weight of a phone. The heavier it is the more premium it feels to me. Too light and it feels like a toy.
Not necessarily. Material feel and form design also play a factor in the premium feel. Take point my Poco X3 vs my S21. The Poco is much heavier, but it still feels cheap.

Im not sure what you mean, as you dont define what is 'better' I have the 13 pro as I cant hold the Pro max due to a disability I have, if I balance the phone on a pencil it sits in the middle which for me is perfect balance (with silicone case on) its not top or bottom heavy. How does the 13 Pro Max balance?

iPhones started to feel too heavy to me after the 6. The current phones are absurdly heavy, to the point of being a joke.
Well, we cannot go back to the iPhone 5 days due to camera and battery requirements. But imo the mini and non-pro iPhones seem fine as they’re aluminum. The Pros are the heavy weights due to stainless steel.

I don’t know, I was pro large phones with large battery before. But I guess I’m finding my limit. My Poco X3 just feels unwieldy due to its weight and thickness. I guess I can blame my annoyance to my S21, which put me back into reality of a phone that is enjoyable to hold.

I used to have an iPhone 7, and that was a good size and weight at about 150 grams, although it has these big bezels. You could use it in one hand and type with one thumb, which I found really convenient.

But I recently switched to a iphone 13 Pro, and it is both bigger and heavier at 200 grams or so. I love the battery life, but I’m not using the telefoto lens as much as I thought, and it’s a lot more awkward to type on which is something I do a lot. I don’t think I want my phone to be heavier than this.

Perhaps I will try a mini next time I upgrade my phone.

The 13 Pro feels (too) heavy at the top. The 13 Pro Max has a more distributed weight over the whole surface.

i think this also depends on your "body built"
the smaller the hands and body one has the better you are with smaller phones
"size does matter"

I am very comfortable with the size and weight of the 12PM personally but for hand holding I also enjoyed iPad minis in the past without a problem.

You know. XS max was heavy but I tolerated it. I upgraded to 12 pro max and it was the constant feeling of I know it’s in my pocket cause is huge and heavy got really annoying. Enough that I upgraded to a mini which I love since I feel it disappears in my pocket. Been rocking a 12 mini then a 13 mini since then.

I have the 11PM as well. After a few months of use (I got mine in Feb. 2021) I feel it's a bit light. The only phone I really liked the heft on was my old 6+, which I no longer have.

I’ve always used Plus phones from the 6+ until the X launched and I used that for 18 months before upgrading to the XS Max. I skipped the 11 series and upgraded to the 12 Pro Max. I skipped the 13 series and will upgrade to the 14 Pro Max whenever that launches. I don’t have a issue with the size of the 12 Pro Max with a case on, but I prefer not to use it without a bumper or very thin case, as the square sides start to hurt my hands after a while. I love the weight distribution of the Pro Max, and also have no issues typing with 1 hand when needed, and using 2 hands when typing long messages.

Yeah this is what I am worried about once I leave my 11 Pro Max and get the 14 Pro Max, the square sides, but you mentioning that cases make it better puts my mind at ease ?
I’ve tried my mates 12 Pro Max and it’s in a Apple Solicone case and seems manageable but I haven’t used it for an extended period of time so it’s had me thinking I may need to be very careful about what case I get. Hopefully the Apple Leather cases make the 14 Pro Max easy to hold, lol.

I have a look alike silicon case from AliExpress that resembles the Apple Silicon cases. I love the case except for the lint it picks up. It protects the phone okay and don’t add any extra weight to it. I just have a hard time putting it in and taking it out of my pockets.

“Too heavy” is a personal preference. I’ve had the 12 pro max and 13 pro max now and never had an issue with the weight. That’s why I keep getting the max versions.

I got my first apple silicone case. The current leather case from apple is lame when it comes to colors. Needless to say it does pick up a fair bit of lint. Not as bad as a cheap silicone but still. I prefer leather.

The first case I bought for my 11 PM is exactly that type of silicone case lol, absolute nightmare getting the lint off and it basically pulls your pocket out when you take the phone out and is hard to put the phone back in the pocket to, lol, I know exactly what you are talking about.

I have a 13 max with a apple leather case, my wife a 12 max with a nomad folio, no compaints.
