I recently upgraded my PM G4 with a faster processor, bigger hard disk, and iDVD 05 software for the purpose of making family movies on DVD. IMovie has worked flawlessly since day one, however, my experience with iDVD has been less than steller. Any theme with 'motion' active would cause my computer to freeze and become nonresponsive such that a hard boot was necessary. I dealt with these problems for a long time trying all of the usual fixes: repair permissions, delete plist, new user, etc. I could only make dvds with themes that did not have motion. I postulated that my older ATI Rage 128 Pro 16 MB VRAM video card was not up to task for this purpose.

Today I installed a pc flashed for mac ATI Radeaon 9200 AGP with 128 MB VRAM(purchased on eBay for $88 plus shipping). I have been testing out the card with iDVD for about an hour and I cannot make my computer freeze! Happy days. I don't believe the chip on the new card is much faster than my old card(based solely on xbench marks). I believe the 128 MB of VRAM is doing the trick - if not overkill :)

I just wanted to share my story.
