So when I’m out and about my phone will connect to public WiFi networks and suddenly my WhatsApp won’t work, or tapatalk will stop working, because it’s one of these networks where you have to go into safari and register etc.

This is really annoying but how do I stop this without turning WiFi off altogether? I want to connect to my home network when I’m there obviously, but all these spotty public ones get right on my tits :-D

There are settings for "Ask to Join Networks" and "Auto-Join Hotspot" in Settings>Wi-Fi but the results for you depend on what public wifi networks you're talking about and whether you've joined them before.

I think you could also try to forget any non functioning network in the settings.
