I know with older devices it was really important to give it a full load before using it. However I've heard that we use different batteries now which don't need it. Is there a general consensus on whats the best move?

Battery

The new LiIon batteries are not sensitive to charge cycles as the old NiCad batteries were. So a full charge is not a big deal and certainly not harmful, the new batteries should be fully drained and recharged every other month or so.

good to know, thanks!

I always charge my battery to 100% on my new phones. It's just something I've always done regardless of if it helps or not. I assume it can't hurt!
