At work my laptop (2012 Macbook Pro non-retina) is connected through ethernet, however the wifi is really bad where I work (10 meters from computer but 2 walls in between).

In System Preferences -> Sharing, I've enabled "Internet Sharing" to create an ad-hoc wifi network for my iPhone. I can connect to the network fine, but it drops sometimes and generally the signal is very low.

Is there anything simple that I can do to increase the strength of the network?
Is the adhoc wifi signal from the Macbook directional so that the signal increases if I rotate my computer? Could I connect anything usb or just some aluminium antenna to make it stronger?

Happy for all advices :D
(Although has to be cheap, no $100 solution)

Thanks!
