Why is everyone having a fit over the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 5s? the iPhone is no where near the first phone to have a fingerprint scanner (that goes to the Motorolla Atrix) not to mention laptops have had fingerprint scanners for years.
The paranoid conspiracy theorists:
If you look around at some of the comments, there are some crazy conspiracy theorists coming out of the woodwork saying that Apple is going to take people's fingerprints and send them to the NSA.
Crazy nutjobs like this only appear on the Internet. No worries.

The paranoid criminal masterminds:
Just think of all the dumb thieves that are going to cut peoples thumbs and fingers off when they steal their iPhone now because they think they'll need their fingerprint..which won't work. And yes, I'm being dead serious. You'll hear a story like this within 6 months of someone getting one of their fingers chopped off in the robbery with the phone.
The "this-is-the-worst-iPhone-ever!"-defeatists:
This is a terrible year for Apple … Honestly, what are you going to tell your non-tech savvy friends tomorrow about why they should by an awesome new iPhone 5S? Fingerprint scanner and it's a little faster? Yawn.
The skeptics:
I was skeptical since day one of the fingerprint scanner rumurs. I've never used finger print sensors that worked absolutely flawlessly. To think of apple doing something like this, it would have to be truly good.
The "I can't believe they would choose that name"-linguists:
I can't imagine Apple is going to call it "Touch ID Sensor". Apple comes up with better names for its hardware tech. Think: Thunderbolt, Lightning, FaceTime, MagSafe. […]

My God, the Engadget comments are ****ing ridiculous. Why the **** did I read them? Maybe it's because I haven't slept and I'm exhausted, but wow. ****ing idiots. Why does Apple garner so much seething hate among the average "techie"? It's just an electronics company...I've seen less angry comments on articles about Ariel Castro.'
And yes, some people were enthusiastic:
Fingerprint sensor could be pretty awesome
And some even saw the bigger picture:
I really hope they take the fingerprint sensor one step further: Bundle it with NFC to enable payments in RL shops and online.
Apple is absolutely moving chess pieces to make this happen, but it's a loooong game, with a lot of very difficult players. Apple definitely is positioning the iOS ecosystem to be a place where secure payments processing is a very real thing, and that future may not be far off.
