I havent moved from 10.15.3 due to it working well enough and hearing mixed things about .4

I've been on 10.15.4 and hadn't noticed anything amiss.

Based on your post I went looking for 10.15.5 and am downloading it now.

I'm on 10.5.5 and haven't noticed any problems or changes in behavior/performance on my 2018 air. It did require me to fully sign into my iCloud account again but that's it. Battery health was enabled by default as well if that matters to you.

(update)

Since 10.5.5 and the supplemental update that came after the initial move I have been experiencing kernel panic crashes in two circumstances. One when the machine is asleep and I've tried disabling power nap which has slightly mitigated this but it still sometimes occurs. The second is while using Parallels. It seems completely random and intermittent so far. Sometimes it will lock up and shut down when starting parallels. Other times while under heavy load within Windows 10. Dual core i5 so heavy load isn't difficult to achieve but you get the idea.

My air is in transit but I downloaded it to my 2018 Mac Mini and it seems fine. It did take 20+ minutes to complete the update.

I will need to retest, but I imagine it would increase battery life if fans not spinning up as much or as high.

No need to retest. Just a thought that sprang in my mind. I just updated it myself. To be frank I had no problem with the battery in the first place!

Seems to run fine on base i3.

Re-tested on my LG ultrafine 5K in clamshell mode. Fan was less active and much less aggressively so. Tested with both Safari and Microsoft Edge, 1080p youtube, 4-5 office 365 tabs and a couple of office apps all running at the same time.

This must have been what my new computer that I just got yesterday downloaded and installed yesterday evening. I had just gotten files from old MacBook 2011 copied over to this new MacBook Air 2020, and had just installed Microsoft Office 2019 on it, when computer shut off in order to update itself. It was a major update, as it took over 40 minutes before I could use my computer again, due to it installing an update.

I hadn't gotten a chance to really do anything on the computer yesterday, so I don't have anything to compare with it. I didn't hear the fan come on yesterday while transferring information from old computer. I am using it now, and everything seems to be fine. I am a bit warm and sweaty myself due to it being highly humid outside. I am using the computer on a lap desk while in bed.

I do have to say that this computer seems much faster than my old computer. I haven't tested a lot on it yet, but it seems okay.

This is on the MacBook Air 2020 13 inch, i5 with 8gb

I got my MBA i7 yesterday morning so the update was immediate for me at first use. I notice that viewing a website or sitting idle it runs in the low 40's C. Watching a Team Center training video conference call and it mostly stays in the low 60's. Have you 10.15.4 people notice a difference? Do you have reference numbers?

If it's the case that the fans run less, does battery usage improve?
some voodoo going on with mine, battery was 98% and is now showing 101%. So far other than this I've not noticed anything major, looking forward to Monday for my next bout of MS Teams to see if there has been some improvements here. Fingers crossed!

Based on the release notes for 10.15.5 they're doing some battery management that might account for this. Basically they're limiting the "full charge" to be a bit below the actual 100% capacity as this will improve long-term battery life (according to them). So full charge maybe be actually 99% and reflected as 100%, and thus you've got 1% more above "100%" (which is actually 99%), so that might be the "101% Health". This is just a guess based on their release notes.

Crazy good, after 3 days I woke to my idle temps in low 30's C, my browsing is low 40's and my battery life shows 12 hours. Im not buying the battery life but it is only drawing 4.2 watts on the web at half brightness.

i haven’t installed .4 on my macbook air just because of the reviews of bad performance. I can say the temperature feels cooler (tested by touch, i don’t do the monitoring software haha) and the battery is lasting about 1 to 2 hours longer for an average of about 9 to 10 hours

I have an MBA 2020 i5/8/512. I also thought the .5 update fixed the fan and heat issues, but damn, they came back again yesterday.

Basically, using Chrome to stream will still cause heat and fans to spike. Worst was using Google Meet for a party - temp spiked to 81 and fan spun like crazy. Once I clicked out, everything went back to normal.

Now that Meet supports Safari, try using that browser next time (with Chrome fully quit) and see if there is a difference (my guess is there will be a big difference)

Are people still liking the upgrade?

also is 10.15.5 safari scrolling smooth?

seems pretty good on 10.15.3 and I heard 10.15.4 made things weird / 10.15.4 was generally a bad release from what I read

@thadoggfather never saw any issues with 10.15.4 having updated immediately upon getting my i5 MBA in late April. Updated to 10.15.5 when it came out - also have seen no issues. Safari hasn't ever seemed anything but smooth. I've not paid attention to what problems folks were seeing, but haven't run into anything in my normal usage.
