Hi, I have a MBP 16" 2019 bought a month before the pandemic. Would not have bought it if I knew a pandemic and work at home would be coming.

In terms of battery life, performance and heat/fan noise, how is the MBP 16" 2019 compared with the M1 MBP?

Battery life on the M1 is dramatically better. I regularly see 16 hours per charge on my Air.

Performance is also very good, but if you need a lot of graphics, the 16" Intel with DGPU is stronger.

Heat/fan noise is no contest. The M1 SOC runs cool, very cool. I love getting near-instantaneous responses on my Air and no fan noise. And even the 13" MBP M1 makes very little fan noise. Especially compared to the 16. My 16" would spin the fans all day long. Glad I got rid of it since the DGPU is not necessary for the tasks I do.

If you want a bigger more powerful system, you might want to wait a few weeks and see if they announce a 14" and 16" MBP based on the M1X/M2 SOC which will be a big step up from the M1.

Thanks. I bought the 16" MBP mainly for use outside home. However, due to the pandemic, I stay home except going to the supermarket. I don't use my 16" MBP often as I have a more powerful PC at home.

In the past, I just sold laptops to people I know. If I sell it to somebody unknown, I don't know if they would be able to recover the data in the SSD. Moreover, we need to isolate and avoid contacts with somebody outside home. Just checked the trade-in price from Apple. I will lose more than half the money if I sell it to Apple now. If they consider the small dent above the touch bar area to be damage, I only get a few hundreds back.
