how is my cable box showing in 'shared' like a ftp?

how is this possible? its on the same wifi network...
can i add other system hardware to show as a shared drive in my finder?

can anyone please advise?
its like an ftp but i dont have to connect manually via an application....

What cable box is it, exactly? Manufacturer and model. Whatever it is, it's probably described in the device's user manual.

It's not uncommon for many different kinds of modern devices to appear as sharable network devices. All it takes is use of the mDNS protocol, and advertising the device's services. Recent printers often have this, advertising an HTTP service for printer configuration. That's just one example.
