yo, i'm a product designer, wondering how the glass of the iphone 3g is held down. i know it's suction-related, but more detail would be greatly appreciated as i'd like to incorporate this technique to my own design concept.

Buzzzt. Wrong. It's got nothing to do with suction.

Two fingers on the top of the backing plate fit in to a slot at the top, and two screws at the bottom secure it. The rubber surround on the glass presses in to the chrome frame, which is where you need a suction cup to pull the glass out.

My old 3GS has lost it's rubber round the screen, so take the two screws out and the glass pretty much falls out. :eek:
