How is the Space grey SS finish?

Apologies if this question has been asked x1000 times but didn't find a definitive answer on my searches.

I'm tempted to upgrade my Series 0 SS watch to a Series 2 SS space grey but concerned if the black finish is just that, a finish..

With the silver any marks or scratches aren't noticeable and they're easily polished out..

How does the space grey look when it's scratched? can it be polished? I'm guessing it's not that colour all the way through?

A scratch deep enough to expose the silver metal underneath would be tragic, and I'd rather not bother.

So far mine has held up against the same things that scratched my AW0 aluminum. My AW 2 black SS and link still look perfect and I wear it all day everyday no matter the activity.
