What is the video quality like when using an iPod classic and the Component cables?

(DVD conversions, iTunes movie downloads, etc)

compared to a stand alone DVD itself?

Converting DVD's to iPod quality is like 1 GB compared to 4.7 GB DVD disks so there must be a loss of quality when displaying newley converted on a tv with ipod video out, no?

Well, for one thing, DVD compression is not the best, so its bigger for the same quality. Also most DVDs are DL, so it more like 8.5 gb. DVDs also have many extra things taking up space besides the feature film (ie: deleted scenes, extras, and all that).

All that said, I don't have an iPod classic, only a 5th gen, but it looks just fine on my 24" SD TV when converted with best quality in iSquint. The classic can play a higher res, so I would assume it would look even better.

I have a Classic 80Gb and we've been using it for video-podcasts, kids videos, photos etc.

Works well through the old iPod Universal Dock + S-Video. I've been using it to test the 'concept' of getting an Apple TV.
