I think using a rMBP for this "test" is cheating...

I got 0 using my rMBP on my first try. But I can't get less than 3 on my iMac.

Obnoxious time suck. I just run ColorEyes and a Colorimeter. Viola better color than a retina with default profile. The subtlety on that test is all in your greyscale values.

I scored a 0 the only time I ever took it. I think I was actually using my external monitor attached to my rMBP at the time.

what monitor are you using?
Standard MBP (2010 matte 15" HD) but I think the difference is enough even on a fairly cheap monitor.
My external was a <150€ piece and it works too. It has a cPVA panel a pretty poor one with sort of bad contrast for what it should be but I never felt it worth to go through the hassle of exchanging for the price. Contrast is almost no better than the MBP TN panel though it should have some static 3000:1. It is not TN though because viewing angles are perfect. It is the right screen just a poor sample I suppose.
