How its possible Spotlight icon disappeared ?

Sometimes I get freaked out when I see things happening on my Macbook and I dont understand. For example Spotlight icon disappeared and it didnt come back without restart, (logging off didnt do it). Also when I tried to connect via bluetooth with my phone, that didnt work either. But after that restart everything was fine. I wonder what is going on, it remembers me of Windows troubleshooting.
Using OS X 10.5.8
