How Konfabulator got its name...

Does anybody know how Konfabulator got its name? Just that I'm writing a script for stage and I want to call a part of one of the character's time machine a konfabulator and I just want to know a bit of background of the name.

If anybody knows how the name came about that would be great.

What, so the creator just randomly came up with it?
I guess I should probably contact him just asking if he's right with me using it, after all its a public performance... Not huge, just an amateur performance but people are paying to see it.
