When Spotlight's indexing an partition (HD), the restult is is stored in a hidden folder .Spotlight-V100 at the root of that partition (according to a couple of other threads, not mentioning size). Since space always is an issue on my iBook, I was wondering how large this file gets (on somebody's main hard drive).

Anyone with Tiger who can tell me how much space this folder takes?

49200 here.

What is that? 49MB? It didn't tell me what it was in, when it displayed 49200.

If you used du -sk, the k makes the answer to come back in kilobytes, so yours is 49.200 KB ≈ 48 MB... ;)

Thanks for the results... I now breath a bit easier about Spotlight's demands... :)

You breathe a bit easier knowing that its half a gig? I hate to think what you would consider too large....
The three results given in this thread is 176, 160 and 48 MB... Who had ~500 MB...?
