Hello, we know that the iPhone 4S cannot zoom in or out while taking the video. Is this a software or hardware limitation? How likely will iOS 6 address this issue? Thanks.

cellphones do not have an optical zoom and most probably never will. Digital zoom isn't very good. Also the more you zoom the more shaky a video will be.

Not sure if they will implement it, but if they do it's not going to be a great feature.

I tried the Galaxy Note. It can do that. Sometimes I need this feature.

The iPhone actually does have optical zoom - not too sure about video recording digital zoom, though.

Are you sure about that? I am fairly certain there are no moving parts in that camera. If I were a betting man I would put my money on digital zoom only.

Not saying it can't zoom....it will only be digital though, and the quality is lowered through digital zooming.

When you zoom that why the processor pretty much tries to guess details of the item it's zooming in on and like I said, if you are moving while recording it's going to be very shaky.

No it does not have optical zoom. It has digital zoom. It relies on software to zoom digitally. It doesn't use a lens to zoom in physically.

So, there is a possibility that iOS 6 or some App would enable this function?

Sorry for possible confusion. What I mean is:

Start the recording. While the device is recording, zoom in and out.

The Galaxy Note can do this. The staff at Apple Store told me that iPhone 4S can't. Windows Phone 7.5 also cannot do this.

Yeah, but it's got a really obscure name you would never think to look for.
It's called....... wait for it...... "Video Zoom"

Thank you very very much. This is what I have been looking for. I might buy an iPhone 4S with 64GB.

Digital zoom is not very good, it doesn't actually get you closer to what you're filming, it just crops and blows up the picture.
