My contract isn't up for a while. Does anybody if Apple has said anything about selling the iPhone 5 without a contract?

I can unlock it no prob, it's just buying the phone that's the problem. When I go to buy I need to have a new plan or be eligible for an upgrade; I can't do either.

Apple hasn't officially said, but the word is that it will be in a few weeks, just like last year. If you are on AT&T (the only carrier other than T-Mobile that the unlocked version works on, anyway), you should be able to order a "no-commitment" priced phone for the full price ($649-$849). It won't be "unlocked," but you can request an unlock for it.

Either this or it will probably a month from now, as it was with the 4S, for factory unlocked phones.
