I finally bought the new Air, blue 512GB edition.

I like the form factor and everything about it. Though the issue is the battery.

Other than Mrwhosethboss, everyone else put the battery close to the regular 17. Though there weren’t many comparisons to the 16e.

Well, compared to the 16e I gotta say the battery is visibly worse. Even though on Apple comparison page they gave the Air 1 extra hour of video playback and also 1 hour of steaming.

My 16e would drain maybe 4-5% per hour. I’m draining 7.5% per hour on the Air.

Even with video streaming, I played an hour of video on the Air at the gym while on the elliptical and lost about 7-8% battery. The same thing on my 16e would usually drop my battery by 3% to 4%.

And the videos were downloaded on the Air in advance, I usually just stream YouTube on demand on my 16e.

Though this is just my first full day with it. I remember a lot of people talked about indexing and other background processes taking up battery.

Wondering what your experiences have been with new phone set ups and if the battery improvements were significant or negligible after a few days.

For reference, the Air downloaded about 250GB of files yesterday when I set it up from a backup.

Sorry Gregintosh, unfortunately the battery performance you’re describing on your Air sounds about normal. It wont get battery life like the base 17 in reality I'm afraid. Watch The Tech chaps battery showdown, thats more an indicator of real life.

That's because the battery test for 16 series include stereo audio output, while the Air test has no audio. You can't compare the two.

Coming from the Air, which I kept for a week, and switching to the 17 base, I can assure you that in real life the 17 base battery lasts longer than the Air.

Is it a huge difference? Would love some stats or examples. I’d consider going regular if it’s a massive gain.

Yeah the speakers might be draining the others more. I am just using AirPods, no audio output all day through the speaker except maybe a bit of instagram Reel audio for a bit.
