Hi all,

Newbe question
Do you know how long do these tempered glass protectors last on iPhones, in your experience?

I have a spigen glasTR slim.

If I recall correctly, on their website it only talks about all the pros and stuff about the screen protector, but nothing about when to replace it.

Be good to have a general idea, I’ll put a note in my diary and will check screen again at that point

With my old phone, the cheapo plastic screen protector got so scratched et cetera, but slowly over time, that I didn’t realise how bad it was, until I sat next to my nephews and nieces and their phones!

Regards, Martin

I think there will be huge variability on how people handle their phones (butter fingers vs. OCD carefulness) and what their expectations to the protector being "good" are (does a small nick in a corner bother you vs. the whole thing looking like a crazy spider web).

The screen protector on my family's 6S+ has been on there since Oct 2015 and looks pretty much the same as it did back then, save for a few nicks on the edges.

The protector will last as long as you don't break it but beware the oleophobic coating may wear off quickly. Mine always wear off after about 4-5 months, most likely because they don't use a high quality coating but you won't notice it that much. You may just start seeing a little bit more smudges.

I use them, usually a good quality privacy version.
Like @mtneer mentioned, it depends.
On my Pro Max I use a privacy version and a leather back, no case.
From going in and out of my pocket, eventually the corners start to lift and eventually gets to the point that dust starts getting under it.
Or I drop it 😱
Then I apply a new one.

You don’t really have to replace them as long as they’re doing their job and aren’t broken. The oleophobic coating will wear off but I have never noticed it to any kind of severe level in past glass screen protectors. I’ve even seen some savages keep them on even if they’re broken lol

I used a cheapo one on my 6s from day 1, it lasted 4 years. Not even one scratch.

The second cheapo is also doing well since the day I replaced it.

I imagine the better brand one's would last years too, even for the heaviest users.

They last until I get tired of the one speck of dust that sneaked in and decide to replace the glass and enjoy the new speck of dust in a new location!

On the rare occasion I didn’t get a speck of dust I generally replace mine at the 5th month to inspect and clean the display. Because lint and fine grit sometimes gets under the edges.

But on very flat displays where grit intrusion isn’t usually an issue like it is on slightly curved displays, I leave it alone unless it’s broken or scratched up. So my Pixel 2 has its original protector. Somewhere around here our original SE’s also have theirs. Flat displays made life with display protectors so much easier.
