Not sure about the first part, but for the 2nd. I own both the 4S and the 5 and they look similiar but the colors look better on the 5. There are studies coming out to support this as well

I would actually guess that the new products will ship with 6.1, not 6.0.1, because every iPad release has brought forth an x.x, not x.x.x. (eg 4.3, 5.1) I do realise that the iPads don't usually come out in October, but we'll see.

The fact is, I don't see why they would advertise the iPod touch on 6.0 and have it ship with 6.0.1/6.1.

Judging from Apple's iOS release history, I want to say anywhere between October 15th-October 31st. Just a guess, but I hope it isn't longer than that!

I heard others complain with iphone 4 and 4S models having wifi issues with 6.0 that they never had before.
So Im hoping its a software fix but not 100%.
We will see.

Maps don't need to be improved via an update. Apple can roll out changes to it server-side (and they have already done so.)

The problem with maps are inaccurate data as well as satellite imagery. All which are fixable on the server side. The front end app itself is actually fine aside from public transportation.
