I got an Apple Watch around launch date, which did a full charge in ~2.5 hrs or less. I sold that one, and then bought another recently, and the recent one can take well over 4 hours to do a full charge now. It seems like it gets to 90 percent in 2 hours, and then every percentage from 90-100 takes at least an hour. Is this a new feature to slow charge it as it approaches a full charge?

I can't comment on the total time as I don't really pay attention, but their slowing down as they approach a full charge is nothing new. We see this with all iDevices.

I never went below 40% even when wearing it for a very long time (24 hours) with lots of interaction. I put on my stand when I go to bed, read a bit and it's mostly fully charged again when I turn off the light.

In other words: it charges very quickly. I'd recommend having it checked/exchanged.

How long does it take to get to 90% or so?

Sounds defective to me. Usually takes about 1.5 hours to charge mine from 30-40%.

I was going to put down "All Night" as that is how long it is in its charger, however about 2 hours would be the correct answer. The other day my watch got down to about 5% because I didn't charge it at night and by 2:00PM it was down that much. I put it in the charger to put just enough charge on it to go for a run, and in half and hour it was up to 52%, and I was able to do my run. In fact I didn't have to charge it again until I went to bed about 10:00PM when it was down to about 10%. I think that is quite substantial, I am well pleased with the battery performance.

This sounds like it could be a calibration issue and not the battery. Try the following and see what happens.

  1. Run the :apple:Watch dead (until it shuts off/avoid Power Saving mode)
  2. Charge it fully (overnight)
  3. Run down to about 40%-50%
  4. Charge to 90%
  5. Repeat if possible 2 or more times (is also the best charge cycle for prolonging Lit-ion life)
  6. Go for a full charge and see if it's not reduced in time

Guess I'm not the only one who can use the watch constantly for the whole day and only get down to about 40%. Takes about 2 hours to get back to 100%. I'm quite surprised at the battery quality on the watch so far
