I've connected my 13inch MBP with my old 15inch MBP directly with an ethernet cable, and my original migration time was quoted at 1 and a half hours, since then it fluctuated up to 13 and a half and back down to 3 and a half.

There's about 60-70gigs of data.

Anyone know how long this should take?

I wouldn't think it should take more than an hour or so, maybe an hour and a half
I have never used ethernet, only Firewire

I just started migrating around 300Gb on firewire 800... It is telling me 2.5 hours...

The maximum transfer rate for FW 800 is 100megabytes (not bits), per second. But you also have to factor in the read and write speeds of both hard disks, as that will more than likely be the limiting factor in this case, in addition to cache.

We're down to 30 minutes.

If that is accurate the total time will be around 45-50 minutes.

I wanted to do it by Firewire, but I went to Best Buy looking for a FireWire 800 cable and they didn't carry it.

Then I went to The Source, and they didn't carry it either.

So...I opted for the Ethernet, which seems to be going extremely well.

Firewire FTW!
I had one hooked to USB and it was taking forever
Luckily I found my Firewire cord!

This was on my old UMB before I got my free upgrade to UMBP, so i had no FW.

I used a time machine backup on my new UMBP w/ FW....I left it over night, so don't know how long it took
