My magic trackpad that I bought along with my iMac 27 2011 now has its own mind. It does not seem to be that sensitive anymore, using it is nothing but a pain.

So how long does your magic trackpad last? Is your very first magic trackpad still working today?

Mine is over 5 years old. When it starts acting up, changing the batteries puts it right again.

should last forever if you take care of it. It doesn't lose sensitivity over time, unless you abuse your pad. I have mine a few months after it was released.

We have 4 of them... oldest from first introduction. All working great.

So what happened to my Magic Trackpad 2011, even with full battery, after using a few minutes, it starts to act up. Things got highlighted or clicked accidently so often. When highlighted, seems to have a hard time getting rid of it.

Even after formatting my computer, the problem still persists.

I would guess you have a defective clicker. It is located in the two front feet. Bring it to the genius bar and see what they say.

Personally, I use tap to click... so I really do not use the mechanical buttons.

Perhaps seasurfur has tap to click active. I alway turn it off as it just gets in the way of my workflow.

Interesting way of using the trackpad, never thought of this method. I wonder how many people never used the mechanical click buttons?

Do you use the mechanical click or "tap to click"?

I always enable tap to click on all of 4 of my personal trackpad devices.
  • MBA internal trackpad
  • Magic Trackpad - MBA at work
  • Magic Trackpad - MBA at home
  • Magic Trackpad - iMac

I am pretty sure that my wife also uses tap to click on her iMac/Magic Trackpad... and on her MBA's internal trackpad.

So you don't use the mechanical click at all?

Mine is about two years old and still works but I shattered the glass on the front of it. It's splintered but still works as I said. I plan on getting a new one in a month or two. I use double tap also.
