I bought my MBP around late 2007. I just upgraded to SL and the battery indicator had a message that says "Condition: Replace now".

Checking for more info, it also says "Replace Now: The battery is functioning normally but holds significantly less charge than it did when it was new."

Searching around, I came across a battery checking program named coconutBattery and it says that my original battery capacity is 5500mAh but is now 2208 mAh. (40%) So now, 40% is my maximum charge.

My MBP is not even 2 years old. Anyone else have the same problem with their MBP battery? Is this normal?

yup..same thing here...though the battery in my MBP is at 45% !!!!
I guess we didn't care for the battery enuf during its younger years..

2 years is a little earlier than normal, but if you have a higher than average number of battery load cycles, that will cause your battery to wear more quickly. It should keep 80% capacity for somewhere around 300 charge cycles.

My 2007 MBP was on it's second battery when I sold it. My wife's 2007 MBP is on it's third battery. We have AppleCare so never have to pay for the replacement batteries. They do go to hell.

Now I have a mid-09 uMBP. I'm curious to see how the so called 1000 cycle battery holds up. I'll be under AppleCare if it doesn't.

coconutBattery says my Battery-Loadcycles is 323 and the Age of my Mac is 24,467 months old.

If that's true, that means my MBP came out before Christ. :p

I replaced my MBP 17" battery after 2 years. It started bulging and had very little charge life. If I recall, coconut battery said it had over 600 cycles.
