hi bought a new macbook.

how long should i charge the battery for?
how many hours?

official guides for electronics say until the battery says FULL with indicator.

but some people have said its better to charge for like 24 hours the FIRST TIME you charge something.

what you think?

cheers

It may depend on who you ask.

I personally try* to let it charge overnight, drain it completely and then charge it overnight again.

*If I can't wait, I let it charge completely and then wait a few hours.

are you talking about THE FIRST TIME??

if you are.......you say you charge it overnight, so for how many hours?
then drain it completely?.......by actually using the product?

I've read that batteries can trickle in more charge, even after it says it's charged 100%

Yes, by using the product. The more things you have on like Bluetooth, Wifi, keeping the screen on, and playing a DVD makes it drain faster.

ok so how many hours shall i charge it for? roughly...........

im gonna charge it for above hours...........

unplug it.............use it.......untill it drains out completely

and then recharge for many hours agian (like the first charge)

OK??

(thanks)

I can't tell you how many hours since I don't how long it will take to charge up your battery. Just check until it goes up to 100% and wait after that as long as you can, about an hour at least.

I'm sure you are excited about using it.

It's not just charging fully, but also discharging fully. Your new battery should be fine, just use it! But, once a month you should condition your battery, charge your battery fully (ie a few hours more than indicating 'full') then use your computer on battery until it says it is running on reserve power etc. Wait as long as you dare, save all of your work and leave it on, it will go to sleep itself just before it runs out of juice. Let it sleep for at least 5 hours, to ensure it is completely drained, then charge it fully without using it and again, a few hours more. Your battery is now conditioned, it resets the chip in the battery or something like that!

wow.
yeah thanks. yeah im hella exited.

macbook arrived.

as soon as i plugged in the magpower plug........it was green light.

which means the battery if fullly charged or there is no battery inside the laptop.

(it was refurbished)

its been on charge for 9 hours already.
im gonna swith it on in few hours, im away from home at moment.

you shouldn't rush your first time.
slow and steady wins the race.
and you should not feel guilty about it. . it's an expression of looooove.

buuuuut, i let my battery run down, and then charged it overnight the first time.

My battery came with 2 cycles which means Apple already did this preliminary step for me.

Forget about the whole drain/charge thing. My dad's company designed a battery management chip, and in the process, they learned a lot about batteries in general (LiIon). Just use it like you normally do, althought a full charge/drain might give your battery a few more cycles before it starts eating dust.
