Wednesday night I started a Time Machine backup of my new top-end spec 2017 TB MBP. It has about 350 GB of data. I was leaving on a trip Thursday morning and was hoping the process would have been completed by morning. It was not. In fact, when I got home Sunday evening it still had not completed...said it was still encrypting and was at about 23%. Surely something went wrong. How long should I expect an initial Time Machine backup and encryption to take on about 350 GB data on a top-end 2017 TB MPB? The backup drive is a new 4TB Seagate USB 3.0 drive.

Is there a better process to get this accomplished? Should I do the initial backup unencrypted, let that complete successfully, and then encrypt the drive?
