just wondering how long it usually takes for the price of new ram to go down. does anyone remember how long it took for ddr2 to go down? i want to upgrade my ram to 4gb but its too expensive right now...

I'd say wait a few months.
Then when the price hasn't dropped break down and buy it anyway.
then the price will be sure to drop the next week by %50
Happens to me every time.
RAM is kinda like oil. The price raises and falls depending on demand. If there is a high demand the price will raise, once demand drops off it will drop. Right now it isn't in high demand but you also have the problem that manufacuters aren't producing alot.
