How long will a 17" powerbook last

My powerbook has been great for a year, until I installed 1GB more of RAM bringing it up to 2GB. It has ruined it completely, CD DVD drive is now packing up. All my software is messing up. Just at a time when I really need it.
Has anyone had problems like this? It's running slower and slower.

Sounds like bad ram - or I didn't understand your post. Even the title doesn't make sense.
