I have the 2017 1tb fusion drive iMac. I got an external SSD and run the OS off of it and it is very fast and I am very happy with it. I love the big screen, but am wondering if I should start planning on replacing it depending on how long this machine will receive software updates. There was not a 2018 iMac. Do you all think I will still get some more software updates?

Apple bases its macOS support schedule on OS versions, not Mac models. in other words, if you could get a "vintage" or "obsolete" Mac to run Monterey, you would be able to count on at least another two or three years of macOS updates. But a machine that was bought right before Mojave was succeeded by Catalina in late 2019 and never updated no longer receives any OS support from Apple, even though the machine is only two years old.
