I put all my videos and music together that Im gona put on the iPhone and it already adds up to 25GB :(

I double checked, it is 29.3.. Hope that helps, just a reminder dont put 29.3 gb worth of music or apps on the phone. You wont have room for any videos or photos.

I'd say just over 29. I know on the 16GB's it's usually 14.x.

Proportionately, if we assume the 16gb only gets 14 (a safe number), then the 32 would have about 28.

I'm just curious if that would be different for the iPhone 4 and if it is further affected my iOS4?

Good thoughts, I'd imagine that it is potentially a little different. Yeah, I would say around 28 just to be sure.. Didn't think about ios4 changing the actual storage space.. Good thoughts !

Then I think we have our answer: 28 is a safe number. ;)

Why do you people put videos on an iPhone? Are you actually watching them on the phone or using it as a storage device?

I watch videos on the phone.

I think the formatted capacity should consistently be capacity/(1.024^3) less a bit for the OS and stuff I guess.

It needs room for the OS and flash based-dives have a set amount provisioned for performance and maintenance reasons. If there is a bad block on the user accessible part, it can substitute the block with one that has been set aside from provisioning.
