Right, so I'm being annoying, and asking loads of questions, but I need to, I don't want to make a mistake and buy the phone phone.

How many GB would you ay (on an iPhone 5, bearing in mind it has 1080p video recording, so probably bigger files)

5000 songs
2000 photos
2 hours of video
100 apps

Thanks all!

On average, about 39gbs.

a good quality song is about 5-9mb..so about 25gbs in music for 5000

Photos depending on the quality & size could be about 8-9 gigs.

100 apps depending on size= 5-6 gbs.

2 hrs of video, easily 2gbs.

Well, my 6,500 song library is roughly 65GB or so. So even with a 64GB iPhone it probably ain't gonna work too well for ya.

My easy-to-remember rule of thumb for song size is: a meg-a-minute, based on 128k. That rule of thumb was more useful 5 - 10 years ago, but you can scale accordingly (i.e. double that for a standard iTunes download). Average song is ~3-5 minutes.

Photos are 2 - 4 MB, average 3?

If you're talking about video recorded on your phone, at 1080p, I've seen an estimate of ~10GB/hr.

Apps are 2MB to 1GB or more, so figuring an average is more difficult.

I'll leave the math to the reader as an exercise, but it doesn't look like it's gonna fit.

Regards,
Tom

6500 couldnt possibly be 65gbs unless you have them formatted wrong..

Those estimates are decent, albeit a think a bit low for music and videos. It's probably safe to assume a higher bit rate for music, which would bump it to ~30-35GB.

For video, really depends on the compression algo and codec, but i'd put 2 hrs at 4-8GB.

For the OP, the amount of media/apps in your example would either fill all available space or come really close.

Thanks guys, I don''t have as much as I said, but it was to give me an idea, as I plan on keeping this phone for a good 3 - 5 years, so obviously over time it will full up, I'll go for the 64GB to be safe :)
