iPod touch How many generations of Ipod touch are currently available?

I am new to the ipod touch market and while researching on the web cannot figure out if there is a first and second generation or only a first. I am not talking about the regular ipod, but rather the ipod touch.

The current model is the 4th generation. I would advise buying the newest model, or possibly the 3rd generation.

theres 4 generations. something to note though is that the 3rd generation only comes in 2 models the 32gb and 64gb. Theres is no such thing as 8gb 3rd generation ipod touch. Many people try to sell the 2nd gen ipod touch 8gb as the 3rd gen because it was sold along with the 3rd gen.
