As the sure launch day is not known. I was wondering if anyone knows how many iPhones you will be able to purchase on whatever day they will be available. Also will you be able to pre-order them?

no one even knows for sure when launch day is, let alone any purchasing restrictions...

i wouldn't be surprised if they do put a cap on the number you can buy, though.

I assume it wouldn't be very different to last time

2 iPhones per post code and payment by card only - no cash/vouchers etc

that's what it was like in the UK and still is....

to you americans: if you get a new mobile phone number, do you have to register yourself with an passport?

^^ we have to do that in switzerland... so i think we don't have to pay with a credit card, or do i?

either you'd get mugged or apple will tell you two max. unless you have another credit card registered to a different address...

I think the same selling rules apply, is launch day really a suitable word to describe it? its just a product update - i dont think it will receive that much queueing or attention tbh.

Are you serious?

did you not hear about the queuing up the other day at the NYC store for the current gen?

Umm of course, it's the launch day of the Second Gen. iPhone. It's not the iPhone coming out with new features.

Best pwnt ever. Serves her right.

That. Was. Awesome.

It is quite a shame that eBay has become another tool for scalpers to use. It happens a lot with sporting event tickets. Of course the nimrods who pay the crazy prices are just as much to blame.

Does anybody know if that lady killed herself when Apple cut the price by $200 a few months later? C'mon, do a follow-up!

A credit check is required to get a mobile phone number but here we use our SSN (social security number) and not a passport. Probably because most Americans have a SSN but most do not have a passport.

To buy an iPhone, you just need a credit card that is registered to a US address. (I am not sure if this policy is still in effect)

Wonder how long it would take to get if you bought it online at Att or Apple, like THAT day? Would you still have to deal with going to Att and get an activation? I cant remember when I bought mine.:(

Screw standing in line.

What were the lines like at Att the next day or even the day after that? Probably still chaos.

Also, for the first iPhone, does anybody remember how many days it was between the release date announcement and the actual release date. Was it like a day or a week?

There were a few lines but most places you could walk in and buy one later that evening.

The iPhone was annouced at Macworld in January with a June release date.

What I meant is, when they announced the literal sale date, is it a day or a week before people actually stand in line?

Thx

I believe it was June 4 when TV ads hit which showed June 29 as the launch date. A few days later, we heard that stores would close and reopen at 6.

Most stores were very well stocked with iPhones that day, and you could buy one around 7:30-8 without much of a wait.

I expect a similar stretch this time around. Announcement on June 9, shipping on June 27.
