I just read an article online about how 45% of all iPod users have not upgraded to 3.x, I thought I would try to get as close as I can to real world stats.:D Vote away!

I'm on 3.x but not by choice. I was having a problem with it and brought it to Apple because it was still under warranty. The Genius didn't know I wasn't on 3 and restored it that way.

On the up side: I didn't have to pay for 3.x. On the down side: WiFi is weak as had been previously reported.

I'm on the latest, it was free, and no difference between 2.x and 3.x for me. Except the new functionality.

I'm weird about always wanting the new stuff (whether it's buggy or not) so I can talk to people about it when they ask me questions. So I only updated because I could (and wanted to) and not because I had to.

I don't know why people even pay for the iPod touch updates. Apple makes it to easy to get them for free.

Get the direct download link from somewhere like iclarified and option restore to whichever firmware you'd like.

At least it worked for me when 2.0 came out and I had a 1st gen ipt.

I have an iPhone now so I don't have any way to try it out again.

I did it when I got my daughters refurbished 16GB and I thought it would be more money but it was only $4.95
I don't get people sometimes. They have no problems spending 100's (or $29.99 for SL) on a computers OS, but $4.95 is cheap. I don't see what the big deal is buying it. These are probably the same people who spend $4.00 a day on a cup of coffee.
