You know, I should know this, but I don't. In Mac OS Classic it would tell you how many megabytes you were throwing away. Now with OS X I don't even know how to find out how much stuff I have in the trash.

How do you find out how much is in the trash?

Open trash and Get Info (Apple-I). Does this help?

Edit: Just checked - you need to Select All first.

You can use terminal for a quick and dirty listing... :D

To find out just the grand total of your Trash..
Code:
du -h -c ~/.Trash | grep total

If you want to see the grand total, along with the size of each file ...
Code:
du -h -c ~/.Trash

[sarcasm]Yeah, I'm aware of the Commands. I've used Macs for 15 years +, so I know them....[/sarcasm]

I'm such a dick.

Regardless, there is no easy way of finding out the trash contents (although selecting all and getting info is fairly easy). Oh well.
