I'm just curious with the rise in gas prices and everything, how many miles the average person drives a year. More so, how many miles Europeans drive compared to Americans. The United States is gigantic compared to Europe, and with all the public transport out there, the higher price of gas seems to level itself out. With that, European models of cars get better fuel economy than the same model in the US, which i find odd, also how much more fuel efficient European cars are in general. Well leave a note and take the poll.

Between 8,000 and 12,000 kilometers per year.

In the states, I drove around 15,000 miles per year. I went on vacation by car over extended distances. I enjoyed driving.

Now that i think about it, this is very relevant for i believe i may focus my Civil Engineering major in transportation engineering.

So even more so, please answer.
lol

I think you stop to low. Plus adding in the KM part with EU just made it a little worse.

Stopping at 12500 was bad since 12k is the average in the US for cars.

I am currently on track to do 16k miles this year.

Last year I drove just over 48k miles. So far this year I'm at 15394 miles. I should also add that this is in a company car and a majority of the miles are for work. They pay for the gas.

I drive about 5.000 miles in the six months that I'm stateside (so about 10k/yr) in the states, and about 1200km in six months when I'm in Germany (~2400/yr)

Can i adjust the poll, or should i start a new one and ask a mod to delete this one?

In the past 2.5 years I have covered 60k miles. I must change something!

I spend $70 on gas every 5 days. That's $420/month!

I just made a new poll, so if a MOD can delete this one, and everyone post in the new one.

thanks for posting in my transportation study.

First year having to do regular driving and I came in at just under 20,000, ~90% being highway. Definitely going to cut back as much as I can, but I am glad I get near 30 mpg (not great, but reasonable).

Zilch

I'm going on 28 and never got my drivers license, and actually kind of proud of that fact. Don't want/need a car with all the bills and hassles and pollution one entails...

I am a stay at home dad now so I rarely drive. I used to be a field service tech and drove 20K plus miles a year and the company did not expense mileage.

US, probably about 15-18,000 miles per year. One of the offices where I work is about an 80 miles roundtrip for me, and I go once or twice a week.

UK, about 6,000 miles a year. Trying to limit that too, £1.12 a litre is just too much. Hopefully public transport will improve, but until then, I'm going to at least have to keep hold of the car.

I live in the boons so its a little more then average. Actually maybe not, I'm 20 minutes away from my work, 25 away from 3 cities and 2 hours from a major city

well bought my car on august 2004 brand new, alreayd got 140 000 on it so that;s hmmm about 35 000 kms a year sooooooo 21 750 mile /year aprox....

I believe the average is 12,000 a year in the US.

I drive probably 8,000 miles a year.

My mom now drives about 20,000 a year.

My dad drives about 40,000 a year. (Commutes 150 miles round trip to work + weekend driving)

Over the last 2 years I've averaged 3500 miles a year.

I don't live very far from my workplace and cycle to work most days. In fact, so far this week I haven't used the car at all and doubt if I will again until the weekend.

PS. You have got your conversions wrong.

1 mile = 1.6 km so 5000 miles is 8000 and not 3100 km.

lol your right, i went the wrong way.

I have an revised poll because most ppl drove more than my max, but i didn't bother putting up the KM so that one is all fine.
