Every time I attempt to use light mode for something different it’s just too bright and I can’t stand it for a minute.

It automaically switches with sunset/sunrise. I don't particularly like dark mode, but it'a easier on the eyes in low light.
I like the look of dark mode in a lot of cases, but reading white text on a black background does weird crap to my eyes... weird persistance artifacts that just don't happen with the inverse. I too have settled on the sunrise/sunset approach, and try not to read too much text on my phone for at night for this reason in addition to the other health implications.

I have it on automatic. Dark mode is fine when it's dark but during the day, I just cannot use it cause I can't read anything.
So we're all different and have choices, that's a good thing

Same here. I use dark mode on my phone at night, but my desktop - where I do a lot more reading - uses light mode all the time.
