I know I can't be the only one.

Been waiting for an M4 chip Studio for a while now and was hoping Apple would launch one late this year with the new mini/iMac but sadly not.

Seems likely it will launch June/July next year instead.

As I need to make a desktop purchase now, I've decided to drop as little cash as possible whilst trying to remain future-proof and get as much back on my investment as possible. Buying a new/used M2 Studio doesn't seem sensible right now.

So I'm considering buying a base M4 mini ($599), and selling as soon as the new Studio is announced. That way I think I'll still probably be able to get around $350+ for my M4 mini.

Only consideration is whether from a used market point of view it would be more sensible to buy the 512GB M4 mini instead for $799 as I know a lot of people still value reasonable amounts of storage. Weighing it up, I still think I'd make more than a $150 loss with the 512GB so maybe the base one is best.

Anyone else in the same boat/planning similar?

12 Core M4 Pro here. Not waiting for an M4 Ultra. There’s no point. The Mini form factor, the price with 20% education discount.

M4 Pro edits my test 10GB 10-bit HDR video at 4K in 2 minutes with about 20 layers and effects.

My “Gaming PC” with a 7800X3D and more RAM takes 4:30 minutes. And use 20x the size and power draw.

There’s just no beating it.

Nice. Is that the base 12 core, 24gb ram?

Does it get hot or noisy when pushing it?
