Often people come to the forums spreading false rumors and saying things like " My friend/acquaintance from apple confirmed it"

Usually these people dont have friends, full stop.

I am just curious to know how mnay people actually know somebody that works at apple (not the stores)

My moms friends husband works for AppleJapan/Asia head of marketing or something or another. He sent me lotsa cool merchandise

What about you?

P.S. you dont gotta know the person well. I hardly know my guy, but you have to have met them. :p

Uh yeah, my dad is Steve Jobs. You might've heard of him...
Well he says that, um, macs are totally cool, and, um, I believe my dad.

So to answer your question. No, I know no one, not even at my fifteen local Apple stores. ;)

I was "friends" with a guy who worked at a retail store at Apple. He got fired for taking an early version of Leopard. I never see him now, but he was a nice guy whenever I did talk to him.

An old school friend who I haven't spoke to in 6 years now works at an Apple Store.

If I was a normal internet person I'd say "I know someone who works at Apple!!!!".

My brother's former employer had Apple as a client (you can use their product in the iTunes store). I don't know if he worked on that project, but I know he did a lot for Victoria's Secret. ;)

A friend of mine works at Cupertino as well, does something to do with programming (network/server iirc), but is never any help with any question/complaints I have with my MBP, iPods or iPhone. lol... His answer is always "I work no where near those guys, never see them and have no idea..."
BUT he did share his friends/fam discount for my MBP :D

Used to, he even leaked me a few fairly inconsequential things. I fell out of contact a while back.

A guy who used to work for us as a lighting designer (sometimes does some work for us still) is a beta tester for Apple and attends all the keynotes

I know a few people who were originally NeXT developers, became Mac developers, and then were grabbed by Apple over the years.

I, for one, can tell you that our conversations about computers in general and about Apple specifically changed radically after they started working at Apple. They generally don't talk anything Apple related anymore. And basically, it is understood that you don't ask about anything Apple related of them.

To that end, the best (and only) info I get usually is given on a voluntary basis. And even then, I don't think that I've ever attempted to disclose stuff. Usually it is small stuff that lets me be technically prepared so I can better help my clients.

But yeah, as a general rule: Friends don't ask Apple friends to reveal things about Apple.

What do we talk about when we talk? Politics. It is a safer subject.

Most people shouldn't really call the people they know at Apple 'friends', more often than not it's a dealer/junkie relationship. ...especially if you claim that they told you about the upcoming <insert product rumour du jour here>... ;)
