I use a 2019 base model 15" MacBook Pro

Port 1: iPhone Dock

Port 2: USB-A dongle, which has several accessories attached such as wireless charging pad, printer, and external hard drive

Port 3: 24" LG 4K monitor via thunderbolt

Port 4: headphones

Port 5: None

So basically all but 1 port is being used at all times for me

I just use one port about 99% of the time, because my MBP rarely leaves the house... power, external drives, ethernet, and extra USB ports all connect through one cable, with a USB-C dock.

Oh nice. I could use my monitor as a dock bc it’s got some ports on the back. USB C ones.

90% of the time, just the charger. I occasionally need to plug in an external drive or SD reader, but not very often. HDMI every now and then, too... maybe once every month or two. Haven't used ethernet in years.

Usually 2 - one is for the monitor, which has the keyboard and an additional USB-A to microUSB cable attached, and a USB-C to USB-C cable for the iPad Pro (part of my home office setup). If I don't have the iPad Pro on the desk or don't need it synced, it's just one cable.

Most of the time, one (charger, USB-C monitor if at the office). Occasionally, a second one to connect my gaming mouse.

I have a 2015 15” and I use a thunderbolt 2 to a dock, power (MagSafe 2) and an HDMI to my 2nd monitor. Would be nice to have a one cable solution with TB3.

One port ~80% of the time (plugged into external display that has other devices attached. I also attach power supply if I'm doing something that doesn't provide enough charging power via the usb-c display connection.

Regularly, I use the power cord (1 port) and the headphone jack. Rarely, I will use two ports if I connect another peripheral. Maybe once every 3-4 months.

Generally just the charger but if I'm doing actual work I'll plug in my Anker dock, so no more than 2. It is however nice to be able to pick which side I want to use.

On my 15" 2018 MBP I use one port most of the time -- for charging; it actually is plugged into my LG Thunderbolt 3 monitor, which is plugged into the wall for providing the power to both devices when I am not using the MBP on battery power only. I also occasionally use the headphone jack/port on my machine when I plug in wired headphones because the BT ones are being charged. I have my Gnarbox USB-C SD card reader plugged into the back of the monitor since I use the card reader so often that it's just simpler to keep it available and ready to use all the time. The three USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports on the MBP are used to plug in my external SSDs when I am doing backups or shifting files around. I never leave them plugged in all the time, though. Sometimes I'll just be using one, and at other times when copying/transferring data from one to another I'll have two plugged in simultaneously.

I use 3 ports on my MBP 16’’
1. Charging
2. Time backup & mass storage
3. Headphone jack

I plug the headphones in rather than using the Bluetooth as it generally sounds better & louder.
