I have the 15 2.53 macbook pro from late 2008 . Stock hard drive 6gb of RAM. How much of a performance difference would it be going to the new I7 2.66?

ROFL

The answer for you question is in most cases the difference is not that great.
In ecoding or PS or other highly parallel workloads it is a lot faster. 1.5 times at least in general standard workload and games and stuff it is about 20-30 %.
I wouldn't say it is worth it, to switch only for CPU Speed.

It's not worth it. Keep your facebook pro. :D

Maybe put a SSD in it, since all you're doing is facebook :)

I think i should have read that over... haha. Have to love auto correct. I guess thats what i get for having Android :p
Not just for that, also the faster graphics for gaming, battery life (so it will actually last through my classes), wider color gamut. Since its near the end of a cycle i could definitely wait if sandy bridge will be a lot better.
