I'm planning on doing an early upgrade with AT&T when the new iPhone 5 comes out, specifically the 32GB model, which means I will be paying $299+$250=$549.

I'm going to sell my current 4S to help defray some of the cost. The phone is in great condition, save a small chip to some of the plasic in the upper corner of the screen near the glass (which incidentally is completely covered by the bumper I have on the phone), and otherwise is in great looking physical and working condition.

I have two questions:

1) How much do you reasonably think I'll be able to get for the phone via Ebay? I'm hoping for $300, but I wasn't sure if that was realistic or not.

2) Besides restoring the phone to factory default settings (to erase all personal data from the phone), is there anything else I would need to do in regards to a SIM card, or contacting AT&T? I've never sold an existing iPhone before, so I'm not sure if there is a "gotcha" to doing this that I'm not currently aware of.

I appreciate your help and input!

1) Check eBay.

1) I'm at work and cannot check eBay.

2) I was looking more for personal experience responses noting what other have either purchased similarly used iPhones at, or sold them for.

You should have said this. I would have been glad to do your research for you.

Fair enough. I'm saying it now though. Better late than never right :D

I'm an Amazone Prime member, and I've never heard of Amazone trade in. How exactly does it work? Do they have a set price list they will give you for certain modeled phones, and you then send the phone into them and get paid?

You'll get Amazon credit, not necessarily cash.

Apple has a trade-in program.

So does Gazelle.

You have many options besides eBay.

I would say you should be able to clear at least $300. eBay would get you more but involves commissions/seller fees and more work on your part.

Yeah, I try to avoid the Bay wherever possible. It was fun back in day. Now, it's full of a bunch of scammers I would rather avoid all together.

So you can't check ebay but you can go to a forum and ask other people to check for you? I need to work at your office, it's a shame that you don't have a lunch or break where you could do it either.

It's worth more than $300 for sure if you can sell it before the end of this weekend. Right now people are paying around $350 for them on craigslist for the 16GB so I'm guessing at least $400 for a 32GB. If you wait until after Wednesday then $300 will probably be your highest offer.

I sold a 16gb for at&t with similar damage last summer for $320 on craigslist. I know it's not a 32gb but maybe you can sort of use that as a basis.

I have a white 32gb at&t iphone that i want to sell so i can upgrade to the 5. Will at&t unlock it once i upgrade to the 5, since technically only one phone will be under contract? Should i wait to sell it after i unlock it, or is it worth more now even though its locked.

Even if AT&T does not unlock it, i believe you can use those ebay listings (under 20$) to get the phone IMEI unlocked.

Nextworth: $305
Gazelle: $257
GameStop : $345

Those would be the easiest. Of course you have to wait a few days for the nextworth and gazelle. Then there is the fact that you might think your phone is in PERFECT condition while, after sending it in, they tell you its in okay condition (less money) and you decide to take the hit because they charge you a few bucks to ship it back). I've traded an iPod in at GameStop and the associates will help you out because they want the trade.
