I sincerely hope this isn't breaking any rules. If it is, I apologize. Please delete the post, and I'll leave it at that. I am doing some research for a paper I am writing, and was just hoping to get some insight on community driven sites. I couldn't think of a better place to start than my favorite community driven website, and favorite forum... MACRUMORS!!!

Anyway, I was wondering, of you with any educated guesses out there... how much revenue and/or profit do you think Macrumors and companies like Macrumors can pull in on a community driven site like this?

Also, is Macrumors only source of income advertising on the site, or is there something I am missing?

Any insight on the business model in general, or expert links, would be most helpful! Thanks so much guys!

I think you would be better off sending a note to Doctor Q or WildCowboy to get information like this instead of gaining the speculation from members who have no clue.

Since this was widely reported, I'm going to post the link to a recent story about MR in the NY Times. The OPs question may be answered there.

As for the site's revenue, I think it comes from advertising, commission on product sales and contributions. I have no way of knowing this for sure.

Nice article I haven't finished reading but it is very interesting & wow at the screen.

There is also the income to support the site by user contributions (demi-gods/godesses, contributer titles).

That is such a cool story.
I'm glade I came across this post.

I love Mac Rumors. It's nice to learn a little about it's history.
Thanks DOC.., you rock.

As a current Medical student who is into technology and the interwebs ( previously a computer Technician) I don't understand why Arn would go into Nephrology

I'm considering Radiology or Interventional Radiology, where hopefully new technologies will make our jobs easier, and more effective =)
