I get the feeling my battery is draining quicker than expected (phone is a few weeks old now so any indexing should have been done) curious to see what others are experiencing.

- 46 minute call connected via bluetooth headset: 9%
- 1 hour YouTube vid display brightness 75%: 4%
- 1 hour Music playback via speakers on low-ish volume: 3%
- 1 hour Music playback via bluetooth speaker: 0% (Stayed at 69%!)
- 20 minutes of the default windy.com homepage (has animations etc): 1%
- Overnight 10 hours of nothing but a few notifications: 5%

Most of that seems reasonable except for the calls - on my old phone I could speak for hours and don't recall it dropping so much, but maybe that's because I wasn't looking :/

Curious to hear what everyone else is experiencing!

Glad to see I’m not the only one troubled by how much battery calls drain.

Honestly, I blame 5G generation Qualcomm modems ever since iPhone 12.
  • Cellular now drains at least 1.5x times more power than WiFi. And I use 3G/LTE which supposed to drain much less than 5G.
  • Calls now drain almost the same amount of power as if the phone is used for browsing with the screen on.
  • Standby time is much worse
My iPhone 11 and older models didn’t have such a drastic difference between WiFi and Cellular performance. This test is a great example of how things used to be.

Suddenly the main function of the phone is now compromised by this new generation of how things are.

Let’s hope Apple will fix it all with their custom modem solution.

Thanks for chiming in @krvld - glad I'm not alone!

Out of curiosity, how long does your battery drain on a 1 hour call? When my battery drops to 79% I will do a one hour call to my landline to see how much it drops and will report back!

Around 10-15% depends on whether I use Messengers (FaceTime, Telegram) via Cellular or just the Phone app.

Shouldn’t be more than 5% tbh.

Same goes for streaming music on Cellular.

WiFi vs Cellular performance is night and day these days

Honestly, feels like my iPhone 5S was much better back in the days.

What is it for a cellular call? If you have unlimited calls perhaps you could call your landline for an hour to test? :)

I’ll try to post exact numbers for various activities next week.

For now though full day on LTE vs WiFi on iPhone 13 Mini.

Just done the one hour test:

15 Pro Max one hour phone call via a bluetooth headset:
(Both headsets placed next to a speaker with music playing so in continuous send/receive during the whole time.)

Start - 19:39: 77%
Mid - 20:13: 66% (32 mins: 11%)
End - 20:40: 62% (61 mins: 15%)

So one hour call drained battery by 15%

On my older iPhone it dropped 22% - so maybe not so bad after : /

Except that even according to Apple it should be around 4%.
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 25 hours
Also this lab test somehow confirms talk time of 25 hours

I saw that article and thought it was high and just thought they were quoting the tech specs. I will do the test again but this time I will not use a bluetooth headset.

Video playback (streamed): Up to 25 hours

On mine, at a drop of 4% per hour, that would give me 25 hours - so at least that is spot on.
