Just looking at this thread, it appears canadian cell phone plans have LOW LOW min!

the lowest individual plan on AT&T is 450

lowest family plan is 700 (though I have the old 550)

Yet the plans in canada are still expensive with such low min

Of course ours comes with the standard call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID, night and weekend, mobile to mobile, etc etc

I wish AT&T would do a 100 min plan for like 15 bucks ha ha

Why am I paying so much!?

New customer? Yes you pay alot. Someone who has been with them for a years you get something called a Retention Plan with freebies thrown your way the longer you are with them.

Yup our prices are way higher. Caller ID is extra costs ($8-$10/month more) for the 'big 3' carriers (Rogers, Bell, Telus) for new customers unless you bargain for it. Or given to you free if you have been with them for years.

Retention plans are great but are still not up to par with what Verizon and AT&T offer. I'm happy with my 250mins.

8-10 bucks for caller ID?!!!!!!! thats been standard here in the US for as long as I can remember!

I would be happy with a 60 min plan personally lol I have the lowest AT&T offers

yea retention plans are great! (though mine is not a retention plan) ha

What's a retention plan?

What's a retention plan?
A plan designed to keep you with them and not switch by offering you plans not advertised which have more mins and other perks.

You typically have to be with them for several years before you can get one of these plans. If you try to get it before then they will just turn you away and remind you about your contract and when it expires.

What's a retention plan?

plans company will give a "valuable" customer to keep them from canceling their plan.

I worked for AT&T and have seen them do some pretty amazing things for people, including paying their entire bill for a month, lowering their bill by quite alot, giving them free phones (such as the top of the line smartphones at the time.....no not an iphone) etc

It all depends on how long you have been with them and how well you pay your bill and also how much your bill runs a month (more is better)

Wow, unlimited data must be nice. I would be constantly tethering if I wasn't stuck with 500mb with Rogers in Canada. :(

Here's hoping the next best thing happens... 5gb/$35 a month with tethering. I really doubt we would see the 6gb/$30 plan ever again :(
The iPhone is waaaaaaaaaay too popular and the carriers would lose a lot of money from people switching to these plans. Or increased data usage from someone going from 500mb to 5gb and feeling 'free' to do what they want.
