Hi, I am using a MBP 16" 2019. It serves my use case fine. I can also use Bootcamp and Windows. Software I want to use are not optimized for M1 yet. So there is no urgency to upgrade. However, I expect future MacOS will have more features unavailable for Intel Mac and there is a small dent on my machine and the usb-c ports sometimes do not work. Not a big deal. If I wait until next year this time to trade in with Apple, about how much more will I lose compared with doing it now? Also, is it better to use Apple Care+ to get the top case replaced before trade in with Apple? The online form asked if there is any cosmetic problem. If I just send it in pretending it does not exist, they may give me lower value (about half price which I might perhaps just keep the machine and use it for as long as I can).

You can bet that your trade-in value with be substantially less in a year then it is right now. As a matter of fact, Apple is giving more than they ever have if you trade-in your Mac right now. But it ain't gonna last forever. Expect trade-in values to go down at the beginning of the new year. I'd do it now if you're going to do it at all. They gave me $620 for my base M1 Air, and that's not too shabby IMO.

Thanks. Why are they giving more than they every have?

The point for waiting for one more year is that by that time more software will be optimized for the M chips and they will have faster MBP.
