How much for a used quad core Mac Pro?

Hello,

I'm considering moving up from my MBP for video work, and I'm wondering how much the used quad core Mac Pro's sell for. It seems the prices should have tanked with the intro of the Nehalem Core i7's that are about 40% faster (for multithreaded video work). But, as far as I can tell, although although the older quads costed $2300 for the 2.8 GHz, the "Buy Now" prices on e-bay for these are still relatively high. I saw a very basic one recently with a starting bid of $1600 and a buy now of $2000. Even at $1600, that's only a 30% discount off a new one.

How much do these actually sell for?

I've seen them as low as $1300. The average price being around $1500. Did you look in the complete sales section?

I just craiglisted one for 2000 to start. I let them talk me down to 1850. No warranty, 4GB ram, DVD drive and the 2600xt. Original box and keyboard. No extra software, just a clean install of OS X.

I felt good about the sale, as I bought a 23" ACD and the Mac Pro for 2000, then I scavenged off the wireless and a DVD drive for my business discount 2.8 Mac Pro.

I just craiglisted one for 2000 to start. I let them talk me down to 1850. No warranty, 4GB ram, DVD drive and the 2600xt. Original box and keyboard. No extra software, just a clean install of OS X.

Yeah Craigslist is sometimes good. That is where I bought my Nehalem Quad 2.66 w/ Applecare. I got a rediculous deal on it for the guy was nice enough to let it go with a 24" LED Cinema Display for less than the base system price! Tough economic times. I would not pay anything more than $1500 for a used older quad. I would say $1200-$1300 would be a good deal.

Paid CAD$ 1300 (Canadian dollars) in a 1,1 MP 4 Core about 2 weeks ago. Spent CAD$ 500 in 8GB and 2 WD Caviar Black 640GB and the machine is running very well. I will be now upgrading with a XFX 4870 XXX 1GB from Craigslist.

Final price: US$ 1600 = CAD$ 2000 with all upgrades included.

Thanks. Looks like everyone who posted is saying about 1200-1300, nearly half of retail, except kellen, who just sold one for about 5-600 more. I’ll check out craiglist and the complete sales section of e-bay.

Do used Mac Pro sellers tent to be pretty decent people? High fi audio buffs, for example, seem to be pretty reliable sellers/buyers. But I’ve heard e-bay can be pretty unpredictable in general.
